So I'm going back to the original question...

"Where do you ride if you do 17.5-18.5mph avg"?

The answer seems to be DB1 (even as DB1 averages tend to be around mid-19mph nowadays).

There were some off-topic responses but I think that's the take-away.

However, I would like to suggest that we make it a more 'normal' thing to break up big rides into slightly different pace groups (within the overall ride's parameters - similar to what Tweeners is doing). It'll prevent some craziness trying to regroup after lights and they'll just end up following each other along anyway. The assumption is that at least 2 ride leaders are there and that they both know the route.

Wow Joel is right this is funny stuff and its usually brought up at least once sometimes twice a year.
Look PBA offers a wide variety of rides for riders of all abilites. Its up to the individual rider to choose the right ride for themself.
Jen is correct we do not need control freaks but we do need ride leaders to keep the integrity of the ride in check.
Maybe some of the ride speeds should be advervtised closer to what they have been averaging over the last 6 months or some of the individuals should move on to faster rides.

What's the big rush to get into the "perfect" group?

Do DB2 for a couple of weekends! if it's easy both weekends move up. If it too difficult both weekends move down. Otherwise work in DB2 until you lead it a lot, then move up.

I did DB Lite a few months ago as my first PBA ride of the season, have progressed, and hopefully will move into OAS lite in a few more weeks.

I am asking about that particular range since I saw a gap in the progression. The way things are currently, there really seems to a wider-than-designed gap between DB2 and DB1 so I asked the question. There is not a gap that big between other groups.

I can ride any of the PBA rides at this point so this isn't about me. Started at Step-Up last Feb and went through most of the rides myself. I tend to be more of a Pop A (not a PBA ride) person nowadays since the weekdays schedule works better for me but should be back in a couple of Saturdays.

Sure. Mine was an open question.

I found the mileage increase of DB1 over DB2 to be a bigger challenge than the speed - due to the time in the sun.

And what did we decide Pop B's speed was???

Another thing is how and who are calculating these speeds. I know on the wet ride we did Tuesday my Garmin did its usual trickery (even with the 3mph cutoff Carlo) and did 17.5 mph and 18.2 moving. I heard people saying we did 19 and although we were cooking that way for a while it didn't hold after the rain. (plus, 19 sure seemed optimistic compared to the GPS...)

How and who calculates and what standard are we using... this can open up a big can-o-worms. Aiming for a consistent pace makes it a lot easier. A few weeks ago when fast tweeners did 17 average we were consistent and it felt easier than some of the yo-yo's we did that hurt worse and resulted in a 16.5 avg.

See you guys later this afternoon for some more speed / perceived exertion / power testing.
