Saturday Step-Up

Step-Up Ride for June 20, 7:00 AM Start

As of Thursday AM, weather for 7 AM -11 AM Saturday, June 20 looks iffy -- predicted temps are mid 70s to mid 80s deg F, 7 - 9 mph SSE winds (no gusting predicted), 3/4 cloud cover, but there's a 40% chance of rain and the humidity is very high, so hydrate well on Thursday and Friday. It will come down to what rain actually comes in early Saturday and what's on radar approaching the ride area. If I'm going to cancel the ride I plan to make that call close to 5:30 AM. I'll post on this blog and Facebook. If you do not see any update by 5:45 AM then we are on for a 7:00 AM Start, or at least a start area call depending on what weather develops. Also look for any posts by the PBA Ride Coordinator - any post he makes as to Saturday rides would supersede whatever I might be planning to do.

The ride will start from the Gulledge Elementary Parking Lot.  Remember helmet, gloves, water and flat repair kit. Please check air, brakes, and chain prior to riding. Please be ready to go at 6:45 AM at the start area for attendance taking and the normal ride safety briefing so we can start on time at 7:00 AM.  Step-Up is a no-drop ride that keeps the group together going at a rolling average of 13 to 14.5 mph over the 30+ mile distance of the ride. Rolling speed uphill might be as low as 9 mph, on descent might be over 25 mph, and on flat sections 15 - 17 mph at any one time.

The Route for June 20th is the following 32.8 mile route last ridden in Dec 2025. There is one planned rest stop at 17.8 miles.

SU 33 3.5 Cities v2 Ridgevw Indep Whaven

If at the start it appears that rain might develop, we might switch the planned route to the following rain route, which keeps us close so at many intersections along that route we could turn for more direct return to the start.
