Athletic Volition serves individuals seeking a highly qualified, respected and certified coach to help them achieve their athletic goals in the sport of triathlon or any of the disciplines of triathlon individually. Those disciplines are, but not limited to, swimming, cycling, running, strength/flexibility training and Cyclocross. Additionally, Athletic Volition conducts classes, clinics and camps for those seeking group experience. Athletic Volition serves all of Texas and surrounding states. In fact, I have conducted classes and clinics in Richardson, Austin, Midland, Abilene, New Braunfels, Lubbock, Leakey and Fredericksburg (Texas), Birmingham (Alabama), and Majorca (Spain). We have also sponsored several bike rallys, bike races, triathlons, and even hospital fundraisers.
I am a veteran and a retired police officer. I have received my certifications from the Road Runners Club of America, the American Swimming Coaches Association, USA Triathlon and USA Cycling. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer by The Cooper Institute (Dallas, TX). I am also trained and certified in CPR and First Aid.
One of the unique services offered by Athletic Volition is the Cycling Skills Clinic. USA Cycling is the architect of this program and a few of us helped design the original program in 2007. (The certification of "Cycling Skills Instructor" is now required by USA Cycling for advancement in the higher levels of coaching.) As noted by the author of the program years ago, "I believe that these fundamental skills should be common knowledge for all cyclists!" However, as we know, very few cyclists today receive any formal instruction in the area of cycling skills or safety.
Over the last 20 years I have seen our Metroplex grow by leaps and bounds. With that comes more vehicular traffic and in turn, more concern for pedestrian and bicycle safety. Unfortunately, it seems that a divergence exists between the growing traffic and cycling safety.
Athletic Volition will celebrate 20 years of business in 2026! One of the goals for next year is to give back even more to the community. I am already reaching out to cycling groups across the state to offer-up reduced-fee (or free) services for the promotion and advancement of safety on the bike. I truly believe that if more cyclists took just a few hours to attend a Cycling Skills Clinic, we could reduce injury, reduce the accident rate and be regarded as a rightful user of the roads. Every cyclist would benefit, no matter how long one has been riding a bike.
